Acculab Texas is a clinical reference laboratory based in San Antonio, Texas that utilizes the most sophisticated technology available to screen urine that may indicate drug abuse and/or drug misuse. Acculab offers flexible and customizable testing procedures overseen by a full-time, highly trained toxicologist. Realizing the need for advanced testing, Acculab developed a state of the art testing menu based on national drug abuse issues. Most laboratories focus on pain medication panels however are incomplete in their approach.

As a CMS auditor, John Barker saw the need for more in depth testing in order to protect the physician as well as the patient. Medical board sanctions against physicians and Synthetic drugs such as K2 and Spice along with Kratom, are highly abused drugs. New street drugs such as “bath salts”, are being developed quickly. These drugs do not appear on standard drug testing. Acculab created a 28 class testing panel that includes over 100 drugs of abuse including prescription, illegal, and street designer drugs along with synthetic cannabinoid chemicals such as JWH-18 and JWH-200 and synthetic stimulants such as 2C-E, 2C-B, and Salvinorin.

Our panel is not performed at a majority of laboratories since most toxicology labs are not willing to invest in the level of testing required to produce the highest level results. Acculab recognized the need and quickly adopted the best possible test menu and is consistently updating the panel based on new substance abuse trends.

The CDC’s Opinion

According the Center for Disease Control, prescription drug abuse and overdoses are a major public health concern. In 2013, over 16,000 deaths were caused by prescription drug overdoses alone. The CDC also discusses worker’s compensation cases and the risk of injuries associated with abuse of narcotic pain medication while on the job.

Our goal is to be a trusted leader in advanced toxicology testing to help physicians protect their patients, their community, and their practice.
